A member of the carrot (Apiaceae) family, Ammi is an outdoor plant genus of around 3 to 6 species, of which the Ammi Majus and Ammi Visnaga are the most common and popular. Most wild Ammi are native to the south west of Asia, the north of Africa and south of Europe. Ammi Majus is also known as bishop's weed, bullwort and laceflower amongst other names and is distinguished from other Ammi plants for the fruit having four additional and very prominent ridges and having a lack of lacunae on the outside. Ammi Visnaga is often referred to as toothpick-weed or bisnaga and is used in the traditional medicine of Egypt, where the fruit is made into a tea and used to treat kidney stones. It has oval, triangular shaped leaves which are dissected into smaller lance shaped segments; while the flowers bloom similarly to other plants in the carrot family. Both the Ammi Majus and Ammi Visnaga varieties of this potted plant are available to order in bulk from Astro Fund, the Dutch flowers company. You can purchase the standard versions of both plants as well as the Casablanca and Green Mist varieties of Ammi Visnaga and Graceland variety of Ammi Majus.
