Narcissus

Narcissus photo

Narcissus is a genus of mainly spring perennial plants in the family of Amaryllidaceae. Various common names used to describe some members of the genus include daffadowndilly, daffodil, and jonquil. Narcissus has striking flowers with six petals-like tepals that are surmounted by a cup-shaped corona. The flowers are commonly yellow or white, with either contrasting or uniform colored corona or tepals.

Narcissus is a unique spring-flowering bulb. Similar to other bulbs, narcissus reproduces by snuffing out new bulbs and forming clumps. For most people, the look of these delicate, beautiful flowers outside symbolizes the end of winter and the start of spring. Indoor gardeners can also enjoy narcissus—they are normally less than 1 foot tall in height and bought when already in bloom in ornamental pots. Similar to other spring-flowering bulbs, narcissus plants can be forced to bloom, but this will usually necessitate a chilling period of approximately 3 months.
