Monarda

Monarda photo

Also known as bee balm, Oswego tea, bergamot or horsemint, Monarda is a genus of flowering plants in the Lamiaceae family. The genus is common in North America.

Monarda is a perennial that grows in zones 4-9. Perennial flowers such as Monarda are not always thought of for cutting gardens since they tend to have a short bloom period. Do not let that thought stop you from including Monarda in your cutting garden. In fact, some of the perennial plants are only perennial in zones that are warmer and would be great choices for yearly cutting gardens where a gardener wants to have different plants every year.

Мonarda has full spikes and is sphere-shaped, which helps to attract birds. This is a lovely plant and does well in hot sun and grows to a height of 12 to 36 inches tall.
