Leucospermum is a genus of roughly 50 species that belong to the protea family and is indigenous to Zimbabwe and South Africa, where it occupies many habitats including forest, scrub and mountain slopes.

The plant has evergreen shrubs that grow up to 0.5-5 m tall. Its leaves are spirally arranged, leathery and tough, linear, simple to lanceolate, 0.5-3 cm broad to 2-12 cm long.

Leucospermum is also part of the Cape Floral Kingdom and only grows in the hot, dry summers from December to late February and in winter rainfall region with its wet winters from May - September. Other genera of the family of protea, which produce ornamental and striking flowers, are Protea and Leucadendron.
