Rhapis

Rhapis photo

Rhapis is a genus of species of small palms that are native to southeastern Asia, southern Japan and southern China. The species are popularly referred to as Lady Palms. The plant also has thin stems growing to about 3 or 4 metres tall, dividing at the base and forming clumps. They are dioecious; female and male flowers are produced on different plants.

It is grown in gardens and used indoors in homes and, why not, offices around the world. Rhapis adapts quickly to a wide range of soils, climates and environments, therefore, the “lady Palm” is popular for many uses.

Many species are cultivated as decorative plants, Rhapis excelsa being the most popular. Rhapis excelsa and other species are rather cold tolerant and they can be grown outdoors in warm temperate or subtropical climates. Rhapis excelsa has been listed by experts as one of the best plants used to remove toxins from the atmosphere. You won’t have to worry about outgrowing and it also works as an air cleaner.
