Magnolia

Magnolia photo

Magnolia has over 200 flowering plant species. It is named after a French botanist called Magnol. It has a disjunct distribution, occurring mostly in east and Southeast Asia. Magnolia has between 9 to 15 petals in 3 or more whorls. It has attracted horticultural interest in general. Some types flower early in the spring, before the leaves open, and others flower in late spring or early summer.

The hybridization has been very successful. People combine the best aspects of different species. Magnolia is used for weight loss, problems with digestion, nasal congestion, common cold, anxiety, stress, fever, headache, stroke, depression, asthma and many other symptoms. It's also used as a skin-whitener. Chinese and Japanese traditional medicine use magnolia in order to improve sleep. Some people use magnolia for medicinal purposes. Most people apply magnolia flower bud straight to their gums when they have toothaches.

The use of magnolia is much safer for most people when used I a short-term period. Magnolias can be used as food plants by some specie’s larvae, including leopard moth.
