Lobelia is a genus of plants consisting of 415 species. They are native to South and North America and generally known as lobelias. Also called Indian tobacco, Pukeweed, Gagroot or Bladderpod, the lobelia plant is a beautiful annual herb with lots of varieties. It’s an easy-to-grow, plant that enjoys cool weather. Although most types are compact, growing anywhere from 3 - 5 inches tall, others grow up to 3 feet. It has also variable colors, with red, white, blue, crossom and pink species available. Violet-blue is also another most commonly seen color. Medicinally, Lobelias have been used to treat Asthma, coughs and Bronchitis.

Lobelia plants like partial shade to full sun. They also like rich, wet soil. They do well in moist to wet soil along streams and creek beds. If well cared for, lobelia can blossom throughout the entire summer.
