Ixora

Ixora photo

Ixora is a genus of plants in the family Rubiaceae. It’s a semi-tropical to tropical evergreen shrub that is ideal for landscapes in the USDA zones not below 9. Ixora shrubs are popularly known for their large corymbs of florets. The flower clusters come in orange, red, pink and yellow, depending on the diversity. It’s also referred to as flame of the woods or jungle flame. Minimal maintenance is required when growing an Ixora plant.

Although the plant can attain a height of up to 12 feet, it generally goes to 4 - 6 feet in the home landscape. Ixora is a fussy plant. Even moving the plant or slight exposure to cold can make it drop its leaves. Additionally, they require great air flow to prevent black sooty mold that might dull their leaves and eventually affect its growth.
