Ixia, sometimes also referred to as African Iris, African Corn lily, Corn lily or Wand flower is a member of Iris family and a deciduous perennial flowering plant that blooms in late winter to early spring. There are roughly 50 species of this plant, and various hybrids have been widely developed.

Ixia species have short grassy foliage, which is quite short when compared to the tall, thin, arching flower stems. They are also simple 6-petalled structure, and haves spikes at the tips of the stem. Ixia blooms in spring with pleasant, star-shaped flowers.

Depending on the cultivar, the open star-shaped flowers can come in bright shades of yellow, cream, pink, red, purple, white, or even turquoise-blue. Ixia are ideal in regions that have dry summers, but they are commonly found in hanging baskets or posts.
