Hesperis

 Night violet

This mysterious plant, in fact, comes from the Cabbage family. “Hesperis,” as it is also called, refers to perennial plants. This genus is quite common, it can be found in Central Asia, the Caucasus, and even the Mediterranean region. It was brought to Europe only at the end of the XVI century.

In appearance, the flower is inferior to peonies, so what is the secret that people are so eager to plant it in their gardens? The answer lies in the name - after sunset the night violet emits a rich and pleasant aroma, for which lovers of flora love it. Although the plant is not perennial, in nature it can be found in completely unexpected places: kitchen gardens, gardens, on roadsides, meadows, forest glades and on the banks of rivers.

The height of the shoots can be from 0.4 to 1.4 meters, and the height of the plant itself rarely exceeds 80 centimetres. Foliage in length reaches up to 12 cm and up to 4 cm wide. The stems of the plant are erect, and the leaves may have a bare or slightly dentate structure. Its seeds are planted at a distance of 10-15 cm, and the first seedlings can usually be seen after 2-3 weeks.

The flower prefers the soil loose and moderately moist, but at the same time tolerates winter well. Therefore, it can be planted starting from autumn.
